People spend tons of money trying to bring traffic to there website through link exchange, banner ads, traffic exchange, and one technique which is not used very effectively as it should be is...traffic through free ads. Well there are people who make a post or two for a couple of weeks and then just leaves it as such.
Traffic through free ads is one of the cheapest source of traffic and its targeted. People who visit through free ads are someone really interested in the offer, so they are highly targeted visitors.
Here is what I do
1) Create 10 user ids (dummy ids)
2) Write 30-40 different versions of text ads
3) Register in the free ads sites (use all the 10 user ids)
4) Start placing ads in regular intervals (the key here is to come up with really attractive ads and with very wild concepts - otherwise people don't even bother to open you ads)
5) Start receiving traffic
Say for instance you place 100 ads in 10 different websites using 10 different user ids. On an average the ads will send you traffic of about ~10 visitors per ad. That's a traffic of 1000 visitors. There are some sites like the craiglist which will provide you with more visitors. Once again the key is how you write your ads.
Its all basic maths, if you place 1000 ads in a month, calculate how many visitors you are going to drive
