eBook Writing - Laying the Foundation for Writing a Best-Selling eBook

It is not unusual for people to cringe when introduced to the idea of writing an ebook. "Oh no! I couldn't do that," they think to themselves, "I wouldn't know the first thing to write about."

My response to that is don't believe everything you think! The truth is, everyone has some area of expertise based on life experience that could be turned into an ebook, some people just need help finding it!

So don't despair! The great thing is that you can start from where you are and for only a small investment of time, begin to lay the foundation for churning out best-selling ebooks virtually overnight.

Here is a three-step exercise you can use to get started.

Step One: Identify Your Passion

Studies show that you substantially improve the odds of succeeding if you do things you are truly passionate about. Ultimately it's not just about money, it's about the pure joy and satisfaction you experience from doing these things. So figure out what you love and you will greatly increase your chances for success!

Step Two: Identify Your Skills

Look for specific training, education, work experience or life experience you have that could help you advance your passion.

Let's say you love jazz and you know how to play the piano. Is your knowledge of music theory and technique sufficient for you to write an instructional book for young pianists on improvisation, ploy rhythms and modal harmony?

Maybe you are an artist who loves painting in acrylic. You also have a knack for explaining things and are blessed with an inordinate amount of patience. You could combine these abilities to start an introductory art class on painting in acrylic.

Step Three: Identify Your Purpose

This is perhaps the most important of the three steps because it forces you to ask the question: Why? You must have a clearly-defined objective or you won't stay motivated and focused.

For the jazz pianist it could be to write a series of books on jazz theory and improvization; for the artist, it could be to one day open a school for artists who want to excel at working in acrylic.

The above three steps must be explored as a group to get the most benefit from the exercise. They are like the three legs of a stool, each needing the others for the stool to work as intended. Use this process to build your own platform. If done right, it could be the launchpad for your next ebook project.
